Facing The Nursing Home is a senior-focused adaptation and direct counterpart to the hit format Facing The Classroom, where children interview prominent public figures, a show already adapted in 12 countries. In this version, the children are replaced by a dozen nursing home residents.
With the French presidential election approaching, main candidates are invited to engage in candid, direct, and unfiltered conversations with the elderly participants. These residents don’t take no for an answer, possess strong personalities, and stay sharp on current affairs through daily internet and social media use.
Each self-contained, 24-minute episode covers key political, social, and everyday issues such as healthcare, personal autonomy, purchasing power, and access to public services alongside more personal and provocative questions. The interviewers also show a keen interest in global topics, motivated by concern for the future of their children and grandchildren.
The show is produced in partnership with the nursing home group DomusVi (with initial episodes filmed at a facility in Suresnes, near Paris), the television channel Public Sénat, and Ouest-France, France’s #1 regional daily newspaper. The series is available online via Public Sénat’s platforms, the Ouest-France website, and the show’s dedicated YouTube channel.
