Simple yet very addictive, Slam is a clever format that mixes crosswords with trivia questions. For 30 exciting minutes, three contestants compete to fill in a crossword grid, but the opportunity goes to the one who can answer first a unique kind of question: whatever that question is, the answer is always just a single letter! But any contestant can SLAM at any moment: decide to block the 2 other contestants and try to finish the crossword on his own without any clue. In the final, the best contestant is given 5 letters (from choosing randomly among 8 figures) that then appear in a 7 crossword grill with a common theme. Great suspense during 1 minute!
Ratings are so strong that France 3 decided to switch SLAM to a more strategic slot (later in Access), allowing the show to reach an average of 14% of market share when the channel’s average is 9.5%!
The show has been adapted on Turkey’s TRT Okul for 5 Seasons and was recently renewed in Slovenia, where the first season last year allowed the access primetime slot to increase its market share by 120%! The format was also adapted in Switzerland for RTS and will soon start to air as a daily in Greece.
